Travelling on the Great North Rand road in Boksburg has many residents at their wit’s end. Many cars travel through this intersection everyday, therefore this particular site has a great
deal of exposure. The company Consolidated Auto had to move
their dealership to a site with a lot more exposure. In 2004 construction started on the first Ford & Mazda dealership in the
world where the two showrooms was split to give each brand
their own identity. The success started a whole new revolution
between the two rivals which has been together for years. The challenge was to give each manufacturer equal exposure,
thus we decided to design two pylons that is extruded from the
main facade of the building.
The double volume showroom floors
is a symbol of the market strength of these to manufacturers. The glass is tilted to lean forward to give maximum visibility in
to the new car section. We divided the two showroom floors with
the entrance to the service area. The workshop is more than a 1500sqm and equipped with all the latest technology.
In 2007 Mr. B. Lowental CEO of Consolidated Auto approached us to design a brand new showroom for a Jaguar Showroom.
We took on the challenge and once again wanted to break away
from the mold. Because the new site is next to the existing
dealership we wanted to bring something that has never been
seen before. The new design is in total contrast, the use of light
materials and a lot of glass. The shell of the building is in a free
organic form supported by cables and a steel frame which will
spend its life in tension. Everything in this building will be light
to create an open elegant feel. For us this is very important
because of the product. Jaguar has recently been bought by
TATA Motor company, they invested millions to show there mark
for the new Jaguar range. This will be another innovative benchmark for Ai Design Group.
